During the warmer part of the year we keep the layers in what we call the EggMobile, a hoop house on wheels, with nest boxes. The chickens are free to roam around the EggMobile during the day so they can scratch for insects and worms, and eat grass, and get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. In the evening they roost inside. The EggMobile is moved everyfew days assuring fresh grass and allows them to fertilize a new area.
For winter housing we keep the layers in a greenhouse. Even on the coldest of winter days it gets quite cozy inside the greenhouse. Wood chips are used to make a deep bedding which the chickens keep scratched up and aerated making for a very clean environment.
Due to the grass our layers get, our incrEdible Eggs have nice dark yolks, are very firm, and the flavor is exceptional!
