Local Farmers hoping to nourish a homegrown food revolution by Cassaundra Baber

“Conventional farming ultimately destroys the land,” Winters says. “Eventually, the amount of available farmland will continually decrease, because modern farming is creating toxic soil (with use of pesticides and herbicides).” Winters – who raises pigs, cows and chickens for meat and eggs – says raising a variety of animals creates “symbiotic relationships” that keep the operation from having to rely on commercial farming methods.
