1 ½ -2 C small Bulgur or quick cook steel cut oats

1 Med, Onion, quartered

2#’s ground Beef

2 tsp Salt

1 tsp Pepper

½ tsp Allspice
Directions

Preheat oven to 450

Wash bulgur in a bowl, drain,Then soak the bulgur for a little bit. Drain again before use.

In a food processor add half of the onion and puree, then add half of each of the other ingredients and puree.

Place puree meat mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 pan, and smooth out.

Repeat step 2 with the remaining ingredients.
Filling (Hashwe)

2 Tbsp Olive oil
-
1 Lg Onion, finely chopped

1 # ground beef
-
¼ C pine nuts or almond slivers (optional)

2 tsp Allspice
-
¼ tsp cinnamon and nutmeg

1 tsp Cumin
-
¼ tsp paprika

Heat oil in a skillet, Saute onion until softened, add meat and nuts then cook till browned.

Stir in spices, remove for heat and sprinkle filling over the meat puree in the 9x13 pan

Spread remaining half on pureed meat over filling and smooth. Cut ¾ of the way down making diamond or square shapes.

Combine 2 Tbsp Butter and 2 Tbsp olive oil and pour over meat.

Bake in the hot oven for 10 mins, tilt pan to distribute oil (if needed).

Reduce heat to 350 and bake for 25 to 35 mins.

Serve hot with a scoop of yogurt or sour cream and a side salad.
